Director’s Statement

My Mind explores the way we become tangled in our own thoughts, and how difficult it can be to distinguish between external obstacles and internal self-sabotage. We follow a woman who wakes unable to experience pleasure or connect with the beauty surrounding her. As the song progresses, fabric gradually envelops her, becoming a physical representation of isolation, negative self-talk and the weight of her own mind.
We establish an early movement motif: she can initially move freely from left to right, but with each repetition, the fabric makes that movement more difficult. Eventually, she is pulled out of frame, suggesting how mental health can follow us wherever we go.
Shooting at Box Hill in Surrey allowed us to contrast this internal struggle with an expansive, beautiful landscape she cannot fully experience. Collaborating with Aimee Dulake, we developed gestures inspired by nervous-system regulation during panic, shooting handheld and on a gimbal with my Sony A7III to create an intimate, fluid visual language.
